Don’t know what to expect, bring, where when you have a treatment or attend one of our sessions? Hopefully the information below will help and if not just ask!
Treatment and Sessions
When you come for a treatment, you can expect to be treated with respect, kindness, patience and dignity.
Why do we ask you to fill in an initial client form? The reason we ask is so that we can assess your needs prior to your treatment, see if you have allergies, have an idea of where you may need work (and it may not be where you think!) and see if you require any additional equipment.
Why do we ask for a deposit? We ask you to pay a small deposit to secure the slot, this is our job, not a hobby and we rely on clients turning up to earn! If for any reason you can’t make the appointment, please let us know in advance as we do operate a ‘Cancellation Policy’. If you don’t pay the deposit, unfortunately the appointment is not secured.
When to come? If you can arrive a few minutes before your appointment, that’s great. Please don’t arrive too early, you may be waiting around! Too late and you’ll not benefit from the whole of your appointment, as we operate appointments, after or before yours. We do have a waiting area outside the studio. We ask if you wait here until you are called in – please DO NOT Knock on the door – you’re therapist will come out to you.
What to wear? Something comfy, if you’re having a massage you may have to take your clothes off (don’t worry we have a very private room), there may be oil or lotion applied – so not your best clothes! The only parts of your body exposed is the part I am actually massaging. The rest of your body will be covered. Full body treatments include arms, legs, back, neck, shoulders and feet and face where specified. No other body parts are touched during massage under any circumstances. You will be left in the treatment area to undress and get on the bed and then left in private to re-dress following treatment. When you are turned over during a treatment we hold up the towel and turn our head away to retain your privacy. Please note that underwear such as briefs and pants must be worn at all times. This is for the comfort and safety of both therapist and client. For ladies removal of the bra is recommended to ensure full treatment for the back.
For male clients. Please be aware that this is a fully professional health and wellbeing massage therapy service ONLY please do not cause embarrassment by suggesting or requesting the removal of underwear for the treatment or for any additions to the treatment. This will result in expulsion from the treatment room and a ban from our premises. Please note that underwear such as briefs and pants must be worn at all times. This is for the comfort and safety of both therapist and client. For ladies removal of the bra is recommended to ensure full treatment for the back.
What about my piercings, jewellery and smart watches? While it is possible for us to “work around” these items it’s actually better if they are removed prior to treatment for your comfort and for the protection of the item. As we work with oils it is best to avoid contact with the items where possible and it can also impede access to muscles when they are worn during treatment. One of the best things about a treatment is the escape from everything and mostly our busy lives. This is why it is always best to remove your smart watch and put your phone on silent so you can just escape everything with absolutely no interruptions. Your watch buzzing on your wrist can bring you out of your relaxation which would be a shame.
You are provided, in the treatment room, with a space to hang your clothing and a space to lay down your valued items. We also do a check after each client and prior to the next to ensure nothing has been left behind.
What to bring? Yourself, an open mind and a bottle of water (although we do have fresh water available)
What should I do when I come in? Please remove your shoes on entering, please bring any valuables into the studio and please put your phone on flight mode or do not disturb – there’s nothing worse than being in a deep relaxation and suddenly been woken up by a phone call or text! There will be a chair for you to sit on and a table to place any valuables on. Take a seat and we’ll explain what’s going to happen, go through any medical history we think relevant and ask if there’s anything you’d like us to concentrate on.
How long will I be? If your appointment is for 60 minutes, we aim to give you just that, 60 minutes. Not 50 or 55! We want to give you what you’ve paid for!
How ill I feel during a treatment? This depends on the treatment you have but for all treatments you will feel extremely relaxed, you may even fall asleep and while talking to us during the treatment is fine, you may find you just want to shut your eyes, smell the aromas, listen to the relaxing music and drift away for a while. During the aftercare discussion we will go over the “Contra-actions” with you and these are about how your body may react to your treatment and what to expect when you get home. If it’s your first time, you will be given a sheet to explain what effects you may experience after the treatment and how you can best help yourself.
What can we expect from you? We appreciate it if you;
- Turn up on time.
- Remove shoes, without us having to ask.
- Turning mobile phones on to flight mode or do not disturb.
- Respect for what we’ve learned and practised.
- Courtesy, respectful and kind behaviour towards us.
